That Phanom District is one of the districts in Nakhon Phanom Province, in the upper northeastern region of Thailand. Located on the banks of the Mekong River, it is approximately 50 km from Nakhon Phanom city. It covers an area of about 700 square kilometers, divided into 12 sub-districts and 136 villages. It is the most religiously and culturally significant district in the province because it is home to Wat Phra That Phanom Woramahawihan, a spiritual center for Thai and Lao people on both sides of the Mekong River. Highlights of attractions and main activities: Wat Phra That Phanom Woramahawihan: The highlight of the district is the 57-meter-high, square-shaped pagoda in the Lao-Khmer style. It enshrines the Uraṅgadhātu (relics of the Buddha's chest). It is believed that those born on Sunday should visit to pay homage for good fortune (those who pray seven times will become "children of the pagoda").
Mekong River Cruise: Charter a boat to enjoy the views of the Thai-Lao banks in a peaceful natural setting, or watch the beautiful sunset.
That Phanom Walking Street and Street Art: A shopping area with Isaan food, souvenirs, and beautiful street art. It is bustling in the evening.
Markets around the temple and along the Mekong River: Enjoy local delicacies like larb, som tum, fermented pork sausage, gaeng om, or desserts like mango sticky rice.
Other attractions: Rural-style cafes such as Na Khun Pu Cafe, nearby temples, or viewpoints along the Mekong River.
