Nam Phong National Park in Khon Kaen




Nam Phong National Park in Khon Kaen Province is the national park closest to Khon Kaen city (approximately 50 km), bordering the Ubolratana Dam reservoir. It covers an area of ​​approximately 197 square kilometers, encompassing several districts in Khon Kaen, such as Ubolratana, Nong Ruea, Ban Fang, Mancha Khiri, Khok Pho Chai, and parts of Chaiyaphum Province. The park is renowned for its unique sandstone landscapes, deciduous forests, dry evergreen forests, and beautiful viewpoints, making it ideal for nature lovers, hikers, photographers, stargazers, or those who enjoy relaxing camping.

The main attractions and popular check-in points include several famous spots, most notably the Hin Chang Si viewpoint, a highlight featuring a rock formation resembling a giant elephant clinging to a cliff face, offering panoramic views of the Ubolratana Dam reservoir, mountains, and distant Khon Kaen city. Getting there from Khon Kaen city is very convenient. It takes less than an hour's drive along Highway 12 (towards Chum Phae) to kilometer 30, then turn right onto the rural road to Ubolratana Dam. It's another 19-25 kilometers to the park headquarters.
The headquarters is located in Ban Phue Subdistrict, Nong Ruea District.

Accommodation and facilities include park bungalows (e.g., Hin Ngam 101/1, 101/2, 104, Chom Natee). Book in advance through the Department of National Parks website.
Lakeside campsite (bring your own tent or rent one).
