Silom Road Bangkok

Silom Road is one of Bangkok's main and most important roads, located in Bang Rak district. It's a leading financial and business district, nicknamed "Thailand's Wall Street," with office buildings, banks, hotels, and shopping centers lining both sides of the road. A brief history: Originally named Thanon Khwang, it was built during the reign of King Rama IV (around 1861) from an embankment created by the excavation of a canal connecting Khlong Bang Rak and Khlong Thanon Trong.

The name "Silom" comes from the windmills that foreigners set up to pump water during that era. Because these machines were eye-catching, the road became known as "Silom Road."

It was one of the first Western-style roads built in Bangkok, along with Charoen Krung Road and Bamrung Mueang Road.

Silom Road is approximately 2.78 kilometers long, starting from Rama IV Road and ending at Charoen Krung Road. It has 6 lanes with sidewalks and parking spaces on both sides. Things to see and do in Silom: Daytime: A bustling business district with the headquarters of many banks (e.g., Bangkok Bank), shopping malls such as Silom Complex, delicious street food, and the nearby Lumpini Park for relaxation.

Nighttime: Transforms into a vibrant entertainment district. There are night markets like Patpong Night Market, bars, restaurants, and diverse nightlife areas (including the gay district in Silom Soi 4).

Nearby attractions: Wat Phra Sri Maha Uma Devi (Hindu Temple), King Power Mahanakhon Skywalk, Patpong, and during Songkran, the road is often closed for water splashing, making it a fun experience.
