Hotels and Travel guide in Tibet

Tibet is a travel destination that combines mysterious culture, magnificent nature, and high altitudes (mostly over 3,500-5,000 meters). Choosing a good hotel is therefore crucial for altitude acclimatization, especially hotels with supplemental oxygen systems.

Important information before traveling to Tibet (updated 2026): You must obtain a Tibet Travel Permit through a tour agent in China (foreigners cannot enter freely; they must travel with a guide + private vehicle or group).

The best time to visit is May-October (clear weather, beautiful lakes and grasslands). Winter (November-April) is very cold but less crowded, and some hotels offer promotions.

Most hotels are concentrated in major cities like Lhasa, Shigatse, and Nyingchi. Remote areas like Everest Base Camp and Mount Kailash (Ngari) mainly offer guesthouses or tents.

Recommended popular hotels in Tibet: (2025-2026) Mostly 4-5 star hotels. Lhasa has the most luxurious options as it's the capital and a major starting point.
